KEYNOTES & WORKSHOP TRACKS
The See the Girl Summit is an annual two-day conference hosted by the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center focused on the latest in Girl-Centered Practice. The 2019 Summit is October 24-25th at the Jessie Ball duPont Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
This year's keynotes focus on the latest research related to sex trafficking and national trends in juvenile justice.

Track 1: Girls at the Center
Workshop 1 (Day 1, AM) Girl-Centered Principles in Practice. Three core principles of girl-centered practice are explored: girls as experts, mutuality and honoring the lived experiences of girls. Join this discussion-based workshop to learn how to implement the key elements of girl-centered practice in day to day interactions with girls.
Workshop 2 (Day 1, PM) When You Are Seen: How YWFC Partners with our Siblings to Support Their Transformation into Self-Determine Leaders. Participants will join a space of connection with girls and experience the methodologies and frameworks to hold space and help build relationships with girls, young women and youth who identify as female as well as with each other. Come prepared to experience the power of connection as a fundamental tool for healing and social justice.
Workshop 3 (Day 2, AM) When You Are Seen workshop offered again.
Track 2: Sex Trafficking
Workshop 1 (Day 1, AM) Coercive Control & Sex Trafficking. This workshop will focus on identifying and defining and different dynamics of coercive control. The interrelationships of different tactics and pertinence to sex trafficking contexts will be emphasized. Participants will also be introduced to existing self report measures of coercive control, that might have relevance for their work.
Workshop 2 (Day 1, PM) Power and Control Wheel. This training will educate participants on what trafficking really looks like in Florida by exploring the sex trafficking power and control wheel, stories and learning what choice looks like in the context of trafficking. Participants will know how to better interact with youth who have experienced complex trauma and how to better advocate for youth and young adults with system involvement.
Workshop 3 (Day 2, AM) See Me Now- Survivors. This is a survivor-led training that includes an overview of human trafficking, how to engage in a trauma informed/healing centered model/community, and how to engage and support survivors as experts.
Track 3: Justice for Girls Movement
Workshop 1 (Day 1, AM) Status of Girls in Florida: Educational Attainment, Health, and Wellbeing across communities. The power of analyzing data through multiple lenses increases our understanding of what is happening to all girls and compels us to dig beneath the surface. We examined important indicators linked to educational achievement, as well as the impact of girls’ experiences in their communities, schools, and families on her health and well-being. Vanessa Patino Lydia, VP of Research at the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center will share highlights from the first two research publications with a focus on indicators that demand our attention.
Workshop 2 (Day 1, PM) Justice for Girls: Collective Action. Power lies in collective action. The Policy Center and The Children’s Campaign and ally groups have set three bold goals to bring about reforms for girls, young women and youth who identify as female who are impacted by the justice system. Learn how you can get involved or deepen your activism to end the disparate treatment of girls in the justice system and change policy and practices that trap girls in a life of poverty.
Workshop 3 (Day 2, AM) Transcending Barriers Across Systems of Care. This workshop will focus on the need for a collaborative approach to juvenile justice reform and best practice strategies for transcending barriers across systems of care. National policy initiatives, data driven practices that focus on family engagement, appropriate assessments, and models for the collaboration across systems that result in high quality practices and services that reduce gender, racial and ethnic disparities will be shared.
